Non-sampling Errors

Two factors determine the quality of data collection process: Field Worker/ Interviewer and Respondent.

1. Intentional Field Worker Errors

        -Cheating

Control Mechanisms: Good questionnaire, Reasonable work expectation, Supervision, Random checks

        -Leading respondent

            Control Mechanisms: Validation

2. Unintentional Field Worker Errors

        -Interviewer Characteristics Misunderstandings

Control Mechanisms: Selection and training of interviewers , Orientation sessions and role playing

        -Fatigue

Control Mechanisms: Reasonable questionnaires quota, breaks and alternate surveys

         -Guessing

Control Mechanisms: Response options (e.g., “unsure”)

         -Attention loss, Distractions

Control Mechanisms: Reversal of scale endpoints, Cards

         -Fatigue
